Day 1 - Acclimatization walk to La Argentina
Our adventure begins at 6:00 a.m. in Salento, Quindío where we will have a delicious breakfast and then take a vehicle that will take us to the Cocora Valley in a journey of approximately 25 minutes.
Once in the Cocora Valley we will begin our ascent to an altitude of 2,400 meters above sea level. During this first tour, we will cross pastures, grasslands and hanging bridges until we reach the rainforest where the guide will choose the best place to have our lunch.
After a 10 km uphill walk that takes approximately 5 hours, we will arrive at La Argentina, a farm located at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level, where we will rest and have dinner.
Day 2 - Ascent to the top of the Paramillo del Quindío
We will begin our second day with a delicious country breakfast and a steep ascent to the moorland ecosystem. A place that will give us the opportunity to observe the Paramillo del Quindío.
This part of the tour involves an area frequented by eagles and different animals in the area, so it is likely that we will see them along the way.
Later, we will ascend to the Quindío swamps, a scene composed of bright green colors and moss carpets that will adorn our tour.
We will approach the base of the imposing mountain with respect to see the remains of the snow that once inhabited the paramillo. And from there, we will be able to appreciate the rock formations of volcanic origin that will make us feel as if we were on another planet.
Our ascent to the paramillo will last 2 hours of hard walking with slopes of up to 45 degrees where the wind will become a faithful witness of our arrival at the top of the Paramillo del Quindío, located at a height of 4,750 meters above sea level. Here we will be able to say: We did it!
Once we have achieved our objective of reaching the summit of this great mountain, we will take a moment to appreciate the incredible view of the Nevado Santa Isabel and the Nevado del Tolima (weather permitting). In addition, we will reflect on this great feat that we have just completed and the guide will choose the best place to have a well-deserved lunch.
Finally, we will begin our return journey taking another path. We will arrive at the La Playa farm around 5:00 p.m., have dinner and rest after the more than 19 kilometers we traveled.
Day 3 - Descent back to Salento
We will start our third and last day with a traditional breakfast that we will have at 6:00 a.m. and then take a 1.5 kilometer uphill ride to the "Alto de la Virgen"; a place that will reward us with an incredible panoramic view of the Paramillo del Quindío and the Nevado del Tolima, as long as the weather is on our side.
Afterwards, we will begin the descent until we reach the Estrella de Agua farm where we will take a break and some snacks to regain energy.
Then, after a small climb we will continue our descent until we reach the Cocora Valley, where a vehicle will be waiting to take us to Salento and have our lunch.
